Celebrating a Legacy: Haji Jamaluddin’s 60 Years in the UAE

On June 11, 2025, a remarkable milestone was celebrated by Haji N Jamaluddin, a 90-year-old Indian educator, who received a special immigration stamp from Dubai Airports. This unique honor commemorates his 60-year journey in the UAE, a journey that begins back in 1965 when he stepped onto the shores of Dubai from Mumbai.

A Journey from Mumbai to Dubai

Haji Jamaluddin made his way to Dubai on February 26, 1965, arriving by sea at a time when the city was still in its nascent stages of development. Back then, Dubai was devoid of a port and did not boast the bustling skyline we see today. Surprisingly, his passport didn’t receive a stamp upon entry—an oversight that would go unaddressed for decades.

Years would pass before Haji Jamaluddin would be officially acknowledged by the UAE authorities for being a pioneering presence in the region. As the founder of Crescent English High School, he has long been a pivotal figure in the community, playing a significant role in shaping the educational landscape.

Honoring an Educator’s Contribution

Crescent English High School, established in 1984, has become a cornerstone institution known for providing a quality education at an affordable cost. With over 1,700 students currently enrolled, the school exemplifies Haji Jamaluddin’s philosophy that education is not merely about profit, but about empowerment and enlightenment.

In a heartfelt acknowledgment by Dubai Airports, a spokesperson noted, “We felt privileged to finally put a stamp in his passport to celebrate a legacy shaped by service, humility, and hope.”

This ceremony served not only as recognition of his long-standing commitment to education but also as a public celebration of the cultural richness that long-time residents like Haji Jamaluddin contribute to the UAE.

A Son’s Dedication and a Symbolic Request

Realizing the significance of this moment, Riyas Jamaluddin, Haji’s son, took the initiative to reach out to the CEO of Dubai Airports. His request was straightforward yet impactful: a formal entry stamp for his father to recognize six decades of service to the community. Within weeks, his efforts bore fruit when officials at Dubai Airport agreed to issue a symbolic UAE entry stamp dating back to 1965.

This simple act symbolizes not just Haji Jamaluddin’s long-standing relationship with the UAE, but also serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of those who came to the region seeking better opportunities.

A Legacy of Affordability and Empowerment

Haji Jamaluddin’s belief in education as a powerful tool for enlightenment is deeply rooted in his personal experiences. He embodies the idea that financial gain should not overshadow the humanitarian goal of making education accessible to all. “Money is not everything. Education is the best weapon for the enlightenment of the people,” he stated, reflecting his lifelong commitment to his students and the larger community.

His school remains one of the most affordable private educational institutions in the UAE, functioning on the principle that quality education should be within everyone’s reach. This ethos has galvanized generations of students, many of whom have gone on to achieve significant accomplishments, a direct reflection of Haji Jamaluddin’s influence.

A Milestone Worth Celebrating

The heartfelt celebration at Dubai International Airport was attended by the veteran educator and some of his former students, marking a moment etched in time. “He arrived in Dubai before there was even a port… now we are honouring his journey in this special way,” remarked the spokesperson from Dubai Airports, highlighting the unique narrative woven into the fabric of Dubai’s history.

As Haji Jamaluddin stands as a symbol of persistence, resilience, and dedication, his story is a reminder of the enduring impact of education and the importance of honoring those who contribute to community-building efforts. His legacy continues to inspire many in the UAE, marking a path imbued with hope and opportunity for future generations.
