Traveling to Saudi Arabia by Road

Documents Required

Before setting off, make sure you have all necessary documents in hand to avoid any delays at the border. Here’s a quick list of what you’ll need:

  • Qatar Identification Document (QID)
  • Passport (must be valid for at least six months)
  • Driving License

How to Apply for a Tourist Visa

Online Application for Tourist Visa

GCC residents can apply for a Tourist Visa (e-visa) easily online. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Visit the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.
  2. Check your eligibility via the Visa Requirements page.
  3. Note that the e-visa is suitable for tourists, event attendance, or Umrah, but not for Hajj.

Visa Fees:

  • E-visa Fee: QR 290.59 (SAR 300), excluding medical insurance.
  • Medical Insurance: Starts at QR 36.5 ($10), with prices varying by provider.

Applying via Tasheer Visa Center

If you prefer in-person assistance, you can apply through the Tasheer Visa Center located at Ezdan Mall Gharaffa. Required documents include:

  • Original Passport (should have at least six months of validity)
  • A recent white-background photograph
  • Valid QID (minimum validity of three months)

Application Procedure:

  1. Get an appointment via the online portal or visit the center directly.
  2. Submit your documents and complete the biometrics procedure (if applicable).
  3. Usually, you will receive your passport back within one day.

Visa Fees:

  • The total cost, approximately QR 522, includes the visa, service, medical, and Enjaz fees. Note: the Tasheer Center accepts cash only.

Vehicle Insurance

  • Mandatory vehicle insurance can be purchased at the Abu Samra Border or online through the Najm Manafith app.
  • Prices start at QR 116.48 (SAR 120) for one week but may vary based on coverage type.

Exiting Qatar

Upon arriving at the border:

  1. Qatar Immigration: Show your documents for validation.
  2. Saudi Immigration: Biometric procedures (fingerprints and photo) are required only during your first visit.
  3. Ensure that your vehicle documents are validated and if insurance isn’t purchased, you can buy it at this time.

Travel Tip: If it’s your first time, consider visiting the border a day early to skip long queues during busy periods.

Re-entering Qatar

When returning:

  • If you’re a Qatari resident, only your QID and passport will be scanned.
  • Visitors will need to complete immigration procedures again.

  • Border crossing can take from 2 to 5 hours during busy periods.

Expect to spend between QR 150 – QR 200 on fuel, depending on your vehicle.

Petrol Stations

The last petrol station before the border is a Woqod station, located about 1 km ahead, equipped with restaurants, prayer rooms, and restrooms. After crossing into Saudi Arabia, there’s another petrol station approximately 15 kilometers away.
