The Current State of Qatar’s Travel Policies Amidst COVID-19

The Qatari government has recently updated its travel guidelines in response to the ongoing challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. This update particularly affects travelers from various countries, categorized into Green, Red, and Exceptional Red lists. Understanding these classifications is essential for anyone planning to travel to Qatar.

Updated Country Lists

Green List

Qatar’s Green List includes 175 countries viewed as low-risk for COVID-19. Notable entries on this list are Australia, China, Russia, and the United States, along with several nations from the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Travelers from these countries can generally expect fewer restrictions when entering Qatar, making this list particularly beneficial for business and leisure travelers alike.

Red List

In contrast, the Red List comprises 21 countries, including Ireland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Individuals arriving from these nations face stricter entry requirements. Travelers are often required to undergo mandatory quarantine and provide a negative COVID-19 test before they are allowed entry.

Exceptional Red List

The Exceptional Red List currently features 16 countries, such as Egypt, India, Indonesia, and the Philippines. These nations are considered high-risk, resulting in even more stringent travel restrictions. Most importantly, travelers from six specific Southern African countries—Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe—are not permitted entry into Qatar unless they are fully vaccinated. This distinction underscores Qatar’s proactive approach in ensuring public health and safety.

Entry Requirements by List

Each color-coded list comes with its own set of entry requirements. For detailed information on the specific restrictions and conditions that apply to travelers from each country, individuals are encouraged to visit the Qatar Ministry of Public Health’s travel policy page. This resource provides comprehensive guidelines to help travelers better understand their obligations and what documentation is needed upon arrival.

Additional Traveler Information

All travelers are required to complete the Undertaking and Acknowledgement Form before arriving in Qatar, particularly if they have not been fully vaccinated in the country. Non-resident travelers must also fulfill all pre-registration requirements through the Ehteraz registration portal at least three days prior to their arrival. This step is crucial for ensuring a smooth entry process and adherence to local regulations.

The Ongoing Response to COVID-19

As the situation surrounding COVID-19 continues to evolve, Qatar remains vigilant in updating its travel policies to reflect the latest health data. The BAL Global Practice group will keep travelers informed as new developments emerge, ensuring timely updates on entry requirements and travel advisories.

Travelers are encouraged to stay abreast of any changes to the travel landscape in Qatar, as governmental responses to the pandemic are subject to change based on the progression of the virus and vaccination rates both domestically and internationally.
