Elevating Passport Services
One of the most impactful reforms under Tunji-Ojo’s stewardship has been the comprehensive overhaul of the passport application process. Gone are the days of tedious bureaucracy and rampant corruption; the introduction of a fully automated system has significantly reduced waiting times, restoring public trust. In just months, more than 204,000 passport backlogs were addressed, and over 50,000 new passports were issued. A centralized dashboard for real-time monitoring has garnered international attention, with the United States even adopting the model.
Furthermore, the installation of 40 e-Gates at major international airports in Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Enugu, and Port Harcourt denotes a massive leap towards modern immigration standards, while the launch of a contactless biometric passport marks Nigeria’s entry into the realm of contemporary digital identity.
Strengthening National Identity
Tunji-Ojo has not only focused on travel but has also made strides in national identity management. His efforts led to the clearance of a backlog of 25 million National Identification Number (NIN) modifications, reinforcing the nation’s digital governance infrastructure.

Security has seen a significant boost under Tunji-Ojo’s leadership. The commissioning of 30 operational vehicles for border surveillance is a testament to his commitment to enhancing national safety. Reforming the Prison System
Addressing the challenges of overcrowded prisons, Tunji-Ojo initiated a prison decongestion drive that resulted in the release of 4,068 low-risk inmates. This strategic move, supported by over N585 million raised through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), not only relieved the pressure on the penal system but saved the government approximately N3 billion annually in feeding costs. Additionally, various Correctional Centers have undergone rehabilitation, restoring dignity to the penal system.

In a proactive move to protect natural resources, Tunji-Ojo launched the Mines Marshal initiative, enabling the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to target illegal mining activities. This initiative has led to the arrest of over 300 illegal miners, simultaneously boosting government revenue and promoting environmental sustainability.

Born on May 1, 1982, in Oyin Akoko, Ondo State, Tunji-Ojo’s early leadership skills were evident during his school years. He holds degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Digital Communication, and Networking, complemented by 18 professional ICT certifications, which include pioneering achievements in ethical hacking. At the age of 24, he was already the CEO of Matrix IT Solutions Ltd., advising prestigious clients like NNPC, PTDF, and the World Bank, laying the groundwork for his national relevance.
In 2019, he was elected to represent Akoko North-East/North-West in the House of Representatives, where he championed vital infrastructure projects and youth empowerment initiatives. Serving as the Chairman of the House Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission, he spearheaded anti-corruption reforms, demonstrating his ability to lead with integrity.

His tenure has made the Ministry of Interior an inviting frontier for investment, attracting over $500 million in private partnerships within just one year. The energy and vision he has brought to the ministry have not gone unnoticed, earning him accolades from various institutions, including an honorary doctorate in Public Administration from Joseph Ayo Babalola University in 2021.
