The Federal Government of Nigeria has recently introduced a new visa initiative aimed at enhancing compliance with immigration regulations and fostering a secure migration system. This initiative is particularly significant for foreign nationals currently residing in Nigeria who may find themselves in precarious immigration situations due to expired visas.

Effective from May 1, 2025, this initiative grants foreigners with expired immigration status the opportunity to regularize their stay in Nigeria without facing penalties. The initiative is set to run until September 30, 2025, providing a generous window for those affected to take action.

The focus of this amnesty program is on individuals who have overstayed their visas or violated visa conditions. This includes a variety of visa types, such as Visa on Arrival (VoA) and both Single and Multiple-Entry Visas. Furthermore, it also encompasses individuals holding an expired Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card (CERPAC) whose renewals have surpassed 30 days post-expiration, making it a comprehensive solution for a wide range of foreign nationals.

Akinsola Akinlabi, the National Spokesman for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), emphasized the importance of taking advantage of this initiative. He encourages all affected foreign nationals to utilize the designated portal at https://amnesty.immigration.gov.ng during the grace period to avert any penalties associated with overstaying. This user-friendly approach aims to simplify the visa regularization process.

To further facilitate this process, the Nigeria Immigration Service has established a dedicated support team to assist individuals with inquiries and applications. Foreign nationals seeking guidance can reach out via email at [email protected] or visit the official Nigeria Immigration website at http://www.immigration.gov.ng for more comprehensive information relating to the initiative.

The Nigerian government’s proactive stance on immigration reform through this initiative reflects its commitment to creating a more structured and secure migration framework. By allowing foreign individuals the chance to regularize their stay without penalty, Nigeria is fostering an environment of compliance and safety for both residents and citizens.
