Understanding Qatar’s COVID-19 Travel Policy Updates
The Qatari government has made significant updates to its travel policies amid the ongoing management of the COVID-19 pandemic. These changes revolve around the classification of countries into three main categories: Green, Red, and Exceptional Red. Understanding these classifications is essential for travelers looking to enter Qatar, whether for business or leisure.
The Green List: Safe Haven
Qatar has identified 117 Green Countries, which are deemed safe for travelers. Notable additions to this list include countries like China, Japan, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, and South Korea. This classification allows travelers from these nations to enjoy a smoother entry into Qatar with fewer restrictions, signaling trust in the low-level COVID-19 transmission from these locations.
The Red List: Enhanced Caution Required
On the other hand, there are currently 86 Red Countries. This list is primarily composed of nations like Australia, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and much of the European Union and Schengen Area. Travelers from these locations are subject to stricter entry requirements due to the higher risk of COVID-19 transmission, necessitating additional safety measures upon their arrival in Qatar.
Exceptional Red List: Highest Risk Zones
In the most cautious category, the Exceptional Red List includes six Exceptional Red Countries, consisting of Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and the Philippines. Those traveling from these countries face the most rigorous restrictions due to the heightened risk of COVID-19 variants and outbreaks, which the Qatari government is keen to mitigate.
Entry Requirements: What You Need to Know
Each country category comes with specific entry requirements, which can be found here. For instance, travelers are typically required to complete an Undertaking and Acknowledgement Form before arriving unless they are fully vaccinated in Qatar and coming from a Green List country. Non-resident travelers must complete all pre-registration requirements on the Ehteraz website at least three days in advance of their arrival.
