### The UAE: A Magnet for Millionaire Migration

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is solidifying its position as the world’s premier destination for high-net-worth individuals looking to relocate. Projections indicate that in 2025, the emirate will welcome over 9,800 millionaires, making it the leading hub for affluent immigrants globally.

According to a recent study conducted by Henley & Partners and New World Wealth, the influx of these wealthy individuals is expected to contribute an impressive $63 billion (about Dh231 billion) in wealth to the UAE. Over the past decade, the country has seen a nearly doubling rate in millionaire migration, increasing from 98% in 2014 to what is estimated for 2024.

### Statistics and Rankings

Dr. Juerg Steffen, CEO of Henley & Partners, noted, “The UAE retains its crown as the world’s leading wealth magnet.” This year alone, the anticipated net inflow of millionaires is projected to surpass the United States, which holds the second place by attracting a little over 7,500 affluent immigrants.

Estimates suggest that by 2025, the number of millionaires in the UAE could rise to around 130,500, while the count of centi-millionaires—individuals with assets exceeding $100 million—may reach 325. The emirate is also poised to be home to 28 billionaires.

### Successful Wealth Attraction Strategy

What accounts for the UAE’s extraordinary success in attracting the wealthy? Dr. Steffen attributes it to a comprehensive wealth attraction strategy that encompasses various enticing factors. The country’s zero income tax policy is a significant draw, coupled with world-class infrastructure, political stability, and a regulatory environment that facilitates rather than hinders business activities.

Moreover, the UAE’s Golden Visa program, which was refined in 2022 to streamline processes and broaden eligibility, offers structured pathways for wealthy individuals and their families, enhancing the overall appeal of migrating to the emirate.

### Source Countries for Migration

According to experts, the primary sources of this millionaire migration include countries such as Iran, Lebanon, and the UK. The geopolitical and economic instability in these regions has prompted affluent individuals to seek more robust and stable environments, with the UAE standing out as a prime choice.

Dr. Steffen highlights that many from the UK are choosing to relocate to not only the UAE but also the USA, Italy, and Switzerland. This trend illustrates a larger movement toward tax-friendly and lifestyle-centric destinations like Singapore and Malta, where high-quality living conditions are paired with favorable tax regimes.

### Wealthy Individuals’ Migration Trends

The global landscape for migration is also evolving. In 2023, a staggering 142,000 millionaires are projected to relocate internationally, with the UK expected to experience the largest net outflow of high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) in a decade. Specifically, the UK is forecasted to lose around 16,500 millionaires, a figure more than double the anticipated outflows from China.

This shift underscores a dramatic change in perception among wealthy individuals, who increasingly see opportunities, freedoms, and stability as lying beyond their borders.

### Broader European Context

The implications for Europe’s economic landscape are significant. For the first time, major EU nations like France, Spain, and Germany are anticipated to experience HNWI net losses in 2025. Forecasts estimate net outflows of 800, 500, and 400 millionaires, respectively, as affluent populations prioritize personal and financial safety over traditional geographical ties.

This growing trend of migration suggests that the status quo in European wealth management may be shifting, raising questions about competitiveness and long-term investment appeal.

### The Ripple Effect of Migration

The ongoing migration of millionaires drives new wealth formation and can also lead to enhanced economic activity in their new homelands. The UAE’s strategic positioning, combined with its lifestyle offerings, creates a compelling narrative for both business and leisure aspects, making it a top choice for those seeking to start anew in lucrative environments.

The UAE is not merely a destination; it stands as a symbol of opportunity and prosperity drawing in those seeking not just wealth but a refreshing lifestyle change.
